Welcome to the homepage of Tunturilatu!

Tunturilatu is a nation-wide association of Finnish outdoor enthusiasts. It was founded in 1946 and has about 2600 members. Tunturilatu is part of the Central Association for Recreational Sports and Outdoor Activities (Suomen Latu).

Our passion is to hike in the wilderness of Nordic Lapland and also elsewhere in Finland in all seasons. We are also interested in the Sami culture and the flora and fauna of the north.

To improve the knowledge of our members we arrange various training courses, for example, safe way of hiking both summertime and wintertime, orienteering, and first aid.

Tunturilatu has 16 local clubs throughout Finland. The names of the clubs are in Sami language. The first ten clubs that were founded got names from the numbers one to ten. The five following have animal names. The newest one bears the acient name of the home city.
